Bartholomew Countywide Black and Black-Biracial Parent and Caregivers Meeting

There are several new updates to the Indiana school systems' rules including 3rd grade literacy retention, strict consequences for chronic absenteeism, expansion of work-based learning, cell phone use restrictions, and much more. During this meeting, we will review and discuss the new probable GPS high school diploma.

There will be two sessions scheduled, one in the morning from 10 am to 12 pm and one in the evening from 6 pm to 8 pm, to accommodate your schedule. Please call me if you have any questions: 812-371-5255.

College Campus Tours

It's a unique opportunity for Black and Black-Biracial middle and high school students in Bartholomew County to visit two college campuses in one day. IU Bloomington and Indiana State University where we will be greeted by their student panel, free applications for school, scholarship Information, gift bags, a tour, lunch and much more. Be sure and wear comfortable shoes. It will be a full fun educational day! Parents and caregivers are welcome. Don't miss it! I Have a Dream - an afternoon celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In honor of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Indiana University and IU Columbus will host “An Afternoon Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 3 p.m., in the Columbus Learning Center Lecture Hall (4555 Central Avenue). The program will include a virtual keynote address from Prof. Shaun Harper, one of the nation’s most highly respected racial equity experts.

Empowering Parents & Caregivers: Navigating the Educational Journey for Black & Black-Biracial Students in Bartholomew County

This is a mini conference that will help parents and caregivers of Black & Black-Biracial Students better navigate the educational system within Bartholomew County. You are able to select from seven topics 2-3 sessions you would like to attend. There is a morning 9:30 - 11:30 am and evening 6:00 - 8:00 pm meeting. Certified childcare will be provided for children that are potty trained. You are welcome to bring your infants with you. Immediately following the event is a Meet & Greet networking opportunity with free snacks and replenishment of school supplies for your student. We encourage you to register and select your sessions by Friday, Jan 5th due to limited seating in sessions.
